Nailstone Traffic Action Group (NTAG)

NTAG was formed by local volunteers concerned about the increasing level of speeding & HGV traffic coming through the village. Despite having a 7.5t weight restriction in place many HGVs are ignoring the highways signs & using the village as a 'cut through' to the A447. We have taken proactive action to reduce the problem which we believe is a key issue for the village by undertaking traffic surveys & capturing HGV pictures / registrations during the week. To date we have captured 250 vehicles & have collated the figures by day & time period to help the police target their monitoring in the village more effectively.

Through our reporting of offenders & active lobbying of the Police Traffic Management team, Leicestershire Highways & HBBC we now have a dedicated officer from the Roads Safety team focusing on the village. This has resulted in a number of police visits to target HGVs & speeding through cautions & most recently by ticketing offenders.

We are continuing to build relationships with local companies through the CEO's to ask for support to ensure their drivers respect the restrictions & work with us to solve the issue. There has been excellent feedback from a number of companies who are now taking action against drivers flouting the restrictions (Pallex / Wynwwod Logistics, MAC, Midland Quarries, GE Smith Transport, Buildbase & Cobley Transport).

This proactive approach provides us with a basis for dealing with any issues arising from the future impact Aldi could have from their National Distribution Warehousing site, the surrounding area development & construction as well as when the site becomes fully operational.

We will also be liaising with the local & county councillors, the Police Commissioner & our MP to keep the issue & the infringements on the agenda.

Our next focus is on speeding, working with the Parish Council to ensure the village is included in the Leicestershire Speedwatch initiative whilst continuing with the current HGV activity.
